Community Development Department

The Mission of the Community Development Department is to promote the public health, safety, and welfare of the City’s residents. The Department strives to foster and ensure safe, sanitary, thriving living and working environments, and to help retain and enhance the quality of life of our citizens.

The Community Development Department achieves these goals through effective planning and balanced economic development/redevelopment; adoption and enforcement of the Planning, Zoning, Building, Housing, and Non-residential Property Maintenance Codes. The Department also oversees the construction, alteration, and maintenance of the housing and non-residential building stock.

Residential Code of Ohio
The City of Wyoming administers the 2019 Residential Code of Ohio in accordance with the rules that have been adopted by the Ohio Board of Building Standards which regulates residential construction throughout the State. Ohio Codes are available to the public at the BBS website. Click on the “Codes” tab at the top of the page and follow the prompts. General questions regarding the Residential Code of Ohio may be directed to the Building Department at 513-821-7600, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays.

A printed copy of the Residential Code of Ohio is available for viewing at the Wyoming Building Department and/or they may be purchased through the following publishers: International Code Council at 888-422-7233 or Thomson/West Publications at 800-362-4500.

The Community Development Department issues the necessary permits and certificates for the construction of new one, two, and three family residential buildings, as well as additions, alterations, and other improvements to existing dwellings and properties. Details of these and other typical functions include:

  • Reviewing the plans and construction documents for these projects;
  • Issuing the necessary permits and approvals;
  • Inspecting the jobs in progress at critical points in the building process;
  • Reviewing plans for other multi-family and non-residential building projects to determine compliance with the City Zoning Code;
  • Conducting inspections of businesses, multi-family buildings, nursery school and day care facilities, schools, and religious institutions in the City;
  • Inspecting the public sidewalks to identify needed repairs, and overseeing the repairs;
  • Inspecting properties to help ensure that they are being maintained in accordance with community standards
