Overview
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is an advisory commission, which makes evaluations of the historic resources of the City and makes recommendations to the City Council and Planning Commission for legislative action. The HPC is established by Chapter 1335 of the Building Code. The Commission consists of two citizens, two property owners (or tenants) from the Historic District or historically-designated property, plus representatives from the Wyoming Historical Society, Architectural Review Board, and City Council.
Wyoming’s Village Historic District was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. In addition to the Village Historic District, 19 homes are individually listed on the National Register. For more information check the City of Wyoming Historic District and Historic Preservation in Wyoming. View the Historic Resources Map (PDF) identifying the Historic District and Historic Properties.
The HPC is pleased to present to the community the Design Guidelines for Historic Properties (PDF). These Guidelines have been developed to ease the process of maintaining a home’s historic characteristics by providing information about a wide range of features – from foundations and roofs to doors and windows – related to Wyoming’s varied historic architecture.
Considering making changes to a structure located within the Village Historic District or otherwise on the National Register of Historic Places? Please refer to the Application Guide (PDF) before applying for Historic Review. The HPC encourages a pre-application meeting when projects are in the early design stages to discuss applying principles in the Guidelines for Historic Properties. Changes that impact 25% or more of a front facade, or 50% or more of a side elevation, require a joint review from the HPC and Architectural Review Board (ARB) and approval by City Council. To request a courtesy plan review of preliminary exterior alterations, please contact the staff representative, Email Tana Bere, at 513-679-4616.
