Vermont Avenue Reconstruction with New Water Main
A contract has been awarded to Ford Development for approximately $2.3 million. Work will start in June 2023 and continue through the summer of 2024.
Project Updates:
August 4, 2023
Contractor has completed all scheduled work for 2023 between West Ave. and the Springfield Pike such that school traffic will not be impacted. They will start work on the section from West Ave. to Holman View on Monday, August 7, 2023. This work will last thru the fall with anticipated completion around Thanksgiving. Duke Energy’s contractor (AMS Construction) will be installing new gas services to residents on Vermont between West Ave. and the Springfield Pike starting Monday, August 7. This work should be completed in a few weeks.
July 9, 2023
Contractor has installed the water main from West Ave. to Springfield Pile. The new main has been filled and pressure tested. It will be flushed any purity tested next week, then new services to homes will be installed. Approximately 30% of the new storm sewer has been installed from Springfield Pike to West Ave. All work in this section will be completed before school starts.
June 6, 2023
Duke Energy has relocated the utility poles and Spectrum will be transferring the facilities next week. Duke Energy will also be replacing underground gas services between West Avenue and Springfield Pike next week. Ford Development will begin water main and storm sewer installation on Monday, June 19 between West Avenue and Springfield Pike. They will work in this section until August 1, 2023 at which time they will shift their work to the section west of West Avenue to avoid school traffic as much as possible.

Duke Energy will relocate utility poles starting next week. Duke Energy will also be replacing underground gas services over the next several weeks, planning to complete the work by June 16. Ford Development will begin roadway work between West Hill Lane and Springfield Pike the week of June 26. A public meeting for any resident who would like to hear more about the project is scheduled for May 31, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at the City Building, 800 Oak Avenue.
