Wyoming Kindness Connection-Interest Groups
Hosted by Wyoming Recreation Foundation

The City of Wyoming, Wyoming Recreation Foundation, and a group of volunteers are building a Mental Health & Wellbeing Corps to help as we transition to this next phase of coronavirus response.

Here’s how you can help:

Wyoming Kindness Connection Interest Groups
As we all begin transitioning, some back to work, some working from home, some working from home with the new dynamic of kids off for summer in the background, everyone could use a break! Through Wyoming Kindness Connection, a group of community volunteers are offering a series of Interest Groups to give us all something to look forward to.

What we need is for you to join!

Role Play Adventure
Meets Mondays at 6:30 p.m.
Group leader Jeb Brack will help lead our adventurers on their quests. Email Jeb jebbrack@gmail.com to get on the list for the Zoom info for meetings.

Have you ever wanted to try Dungeons & Dragons but didn’t know where to start? This group will offer D&D basics for families, adult groups, or anyone interested in learning more.

Guided Meditation
Guided Meditation meets Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m.
Email group leader, Anne Brack, at ambrack90@gmail.com for zoom link and weekly reminders.

Improve your emotional, physical, and spiritual health with a mindfulness practice. This group listens to Guided Imagery and Affirmations from Kaiser Permanente and University of Michigan that last 20-40 minutes and offers each other support.

Virtual personal writing group: Quarantine Edition
Meeting online every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Group Leader: Shannon Hautman

All are welcome to join this informal, come-as-you-are personal writing group. We’ll work through writing activities and share ideas to help you document your quarantine experiences (personal, family, community, workplace, etc.). This is a dedicated time to get your thoughts on paper and flex your writing muscles while connecting with others in your community.

Spa Night
Meets second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.,
Email group leader Autumn McKinley at autumnjmckinley@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link.

Hop on in for a little at home spa time. We all need a little self-care at this time. Have a moment just about you. Make sure you have something to pamper you. Some will do facials, some their nails. Think spa moment at home with friends (virtually).

Ru Paul’s Drag Race Watch Party
Meeting weekly on Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
Group leader: Svetlana Skalican.

Anyone who loves to watch this show or is curious about what is it all about is welcome to join. The group will be making it a wine/cocktail hour. Also, feel free to dress up or accessorize to bring out your own inner Drag Queen! And if you just feel like being completely casual sans any fuss or muss, that’s okay too!!! This is a space to let loose and have fun!

Join the Facebook Group for more details and for updates from Svetlana Skalican https://www.facebook.com/wyomingkindnessprojectrpdrfanclub/?ref=br_rs

Easy Brewing Your Own Beer
The group will meet Saturdays at 3:00 p.m.
Contact group leader Tim Lagrange, at tim.lagrange@gmail.com, for the Zoom link.

Join for a short course on brewing your own beer in your kitchen. Sessions will cover: What is beer made of, and what you need to get started brewing? An actual virtual brew day….probably. Bottle conditioning and bottling your home brew. Optional: How to drink your beer. 21 & Up.

Urban Sketching
Meeting the third Saturday of each month year-round.
Group Leader: Jeb Brack jebbrack@gmail.com or visit http://uskcincinnati.blogspot.com/

Urban Sketchers Cincinnati meets to draw locations around our city, then share them with each other and online. (Currently, we are sharing photos to sketch from.) All skill levels, media, and ages are welcome!

We also add outings (virtual and real) every month, so check the Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/groups/urbansketcherscincinnati

Racial Justice Reading Group
Depending on the text and the will of the group, meetings will take place either weekly or bi-weekly, from roughly 8:30-9:30pm, via Zoom.
Contact Phillip Roebuck to express interest or ask questions: phillip.roebuck@gmail.com

With issues of racial injustice and protests in the news constantly the last few weeks, it can be overwhelming and confusing trying to figure out how to respond. This reading group seeks to provide a safe space to learn about and discuss the ways people of color have been and continue to be systematically oppressed in our country. Whether you are a seasoned justice seeker or are in the early stages of trying to learn more and consider what you can do, all are welcome.

Text: TBD by the group in our first meeting. One possibility: The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, by Michelle Alexander

Wyoming Kindness Connection Wants to Connect With You!
Wyoming Kindness Connection invites you to join our Facebook group to stay up to date on all the ways you can request, offer, and partake in kindness in our community. Let’s be #kindWyomingOH! https://www.facebook.com/groups/wyomingkindnessconnection

This month, we’re focusing on caring for ourselves and others. Here’s how you can get involved:

Caring for Others
Kindness Ambassadors is a volunteer effort to be a point of contact for your immediate neighbors. Join us in reaching those that need a (socially distant) helping hand. Sign up to help us reach every home in Wyoming! https://www.wyomingrecreationfoundation.org/wkc/volunteer

Caring for Yourself
Ohio’s Crisis Text line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for any person that may need help coping with a stressful situation. Reach out by text to communicate with someone trained to listen and respond in a method that is private, secure and confidential. Text the keyword “4hope” to 741 741 to be connected to a trained Crisis Counselor within 5 minutes. The Crisis Text Line is a free, confidential service available 24/7 via text on mobile devices. https://mha.ohio.gov/Families-Children-and-Adults/Get-Help/Crisis-Text-Line

Self-care, reflection, and connection is essential in times of great stress and uncertainty. To that end, Wyoming Kindness Connection is offering weekly storytelling circles with Joey Taylor of Bespoken Live. Please join us Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the picnic tables adjacent to Wyoming Community Coffee. Grab a cup or bring your own, and enjoy a little social time sharing stories. Feel free to bring your own lawn chair and mask. Check our Facebook page for event confirmation and weather updates.
